How YOU can stop the lies about healthcare and the propostions

Did you know that there are 18 changes to healthcare which take place immediately, thanks to Democrats?

Do you know what the propositions on the June ballot are all about?

Maybe you do know, but do your friends and neighbors?

Here's an easy and effective way to get the word out and make a difference!

We have developed a two-part flyer:
• 18 immediate changes to healthcare
• A simple guide to the propositions on the June ballot

Will you commit to making 20 copies and passing them out?
(Of course more than 20 would be great!)

• Put them on the doors of your neighbors (do not put in mailboxes)
• Give them to your friends, family, and coworkers
• Email the flyer to your friends around the state and ask them to do the same

Here are the download links:
Combined healthcare and proposition flyer
Just the propositions (2 per page so you can cut them in half)

Together we can overcome the big bucks on the right and stop the lies!

Location Name:
State Building Auditorium
Address:
6150 Van Nuys Blvd

Please join us on Thursday, June 24, at 7:00 p.m for a reading and discussion with Reza Aslan.

Dr. Reza Aslan, an internationally acclaimed writer and scholar of religions, is a contributing editor at the Daily Beast (thedailybeast.com). Reza Aslan has degrees in Religions from Santa Clara University, Harvard University, and the University of California, Santa Barbara, as well as a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa, where he was named the Truman Capote Fellow in Fiction.

We were privileged to have Reza visit our club in April 2008 to discuss his first book, the international bestseller "No God But God". The book was named one of the 100 most important books of the last decade. It was a packed house then and we hope to have a packed house at our June 24th meeting when Reza, presents his latest book "Beyond Fundamentalism", published in hardcover as "How to Win a Cosmic War". We will have copies of the book available for $16.

The meeting takes place at the State Building Auditorium, 6150 Van Nuys Blvd at Calvert. Entrance is on Calvert and metered street parking is available.

Haiti Earthquake Relief

Those of us who live in earthquake-prone areas know the power and destruction they can bring. The news and images of devastation from Haiti are overwhelming. As Californians, Americans, and fellow citizens of the world it's our duty to step up and help at times like this.

Valley Grassroots is asking you to contribute to Direct Relief International's relief fund to help provide medical and other aid directly to the victims of the earthquake. They have an ongoing humanitarian effort in Haiti and already have the network to distribute the aid. They are based in Santa Barbara and receive top marks for efficiency and low overhead.

Please go to http://dri.convio.net/goto/vgfdhaiti to make your tax-deductible contribution today. You can also contribute $10 by texting GIVE10 to 20222 and the donation will be added to your cell phone bill. Funds will go directly to DRI and will be put to use immediately.

Community Service Opportunities

AIDS Project Los Angeles' Necessities of Life Food Bank
Founded in 1986, APLA’s Necessities of Life Program is the nation’s largest food pantry for people with HIV/AIDS. Groceries and other items are bagged at the main distribution center in North Hollywood for distribution to clients throughout Los Angeles County.

VGFD has committed volunteers for the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm to help bag groceries in North Hollywood. Our next scheduled date is January 17. We need 10 people per month on an ongoing basis. More information about the food bank is at http://apla.org/programs/nolp.html

Blood Drive
We are gauging the interest of a blood drive in conjunction with Providence Health System.

If you are interested in helping with the food bank or blood drive, please contact Tauby at rosstauby@yahoo.com
